Big Track Of The Week, Christmas Eve Edition

This isn't the newest track out, but it is guaranteed to keep you warm in this cold weather. "Hands High" will be on Cesar Comanche's upcoming album, 'Die In Your Lap'. You might remember the beat itself as being the instrumental to the Khrysis Shoutro on Little Brother's 'Chittlin Circuit 1.5' album. It's about time someone spit on it..

Season's Greetings from the Urban Renewal Project!

No show this week, since Sage is livin' it up in Mexico! We'll be back next week with the best of 2008! Should be a good show given the amount of quality material that was released... until then, here's a classic little holiday song for ya.

Run DMC - Christmas In Hollis

Happy holidays!

BIG track for the week of December 21

I'm gonna go with a track that we've been playing for a couple weeks now as the big track. This K'Naan track features Chubb Rock and is on K's upcoming album "Troubador", due out in early 2009. Check it, and keep an eye out for this talented Canadian artist.

Urban Renewal Project -- December 16, 2008

More and more and more heat....

We set it off with a double shot from Reef The Lost Cauze's album, 'A Vicious Cycle'. I recommend it, cause Reef is bringin it a big way. We also had interviews with Anonymous Twist, a very talented DJ/Producer/MC from the T Dot. We were also joined by a good friend of the URP from the Bay Area, producer and now MC Traxamillion. We bumped his new track, '808', and rest assured this track is NOT for dinky computer speakers!

Our old friend from the Vancouver comedy scene, Patrick Maliha. He did up some impressions for us, and ran down his upcoming shows and let us know about his new radio show on 1410 CFUN... Check it! We had tons of great tracks tonight from Snak The Ripper, Jay-Z, The Knux, Fashawn, Richie Cunning & U.N.I., K'Naan and more! Check it!

As always, you can download the podcast at www.UrbanRenewalProject.com a couple days from now! While you're at it, hit up the store and message board! We're off next week, but check us on the 30th when we'll be showcasing the year's best tracks!

Peace!

BIG track of the week -- December 14

This week's track is a newer DJ Premier-produced cut from Blaq Poet called "Ain't Nuttin Changed". Word is that Premo will be producing quite a few tracks from Poet's upcoming album which is great news because he can rip a Premier track as well as anyone (see FAYBAN, Poet Has Come, We Gonna Ill). Check it!

Urban Renewal Project -- Tuesday December 9th, 2008 -- Ladies Night!

Ladies Night!

Big start to the show on Tuesday, with a Double Shot from Medinah Starr's upcoming EP, "Serious Intermission". This disc is serious, don't sleep on the talented Philly rhyme sayer! We were also joined by Medinah for a phone interview where she spoke on her experiences in the music industry, her upcoming project and life in general! Good talk! Almost immediately after that we were joined by Amanda Diva, who is doing some big things in her own right, including collaborations with Q-Tip among others! Two quality interviews from two of the hottest female MCs in the game right now!

www.myspace.com/medinahdeen
www.myspace.com/amandadiva

We were also joined by the Australian hip-hop duo, Bliss N Eso. They are tearing up the Aussie scene right now and are making their way to North America as we speak! Check their website, www.blissneso.com for show details!

Check out www.UrbanRenewalProject.net or download the podcast of this show because you're missing out if you didn't hear it! We got into an all-female MC set following the first two interviews with Medinah Starr and Amanda Diva and it was on from there! There was no slowing down, with new ish from Common, Blaq Poet, EPMD, Torae, Jay-Z, 88-Keys, Snak The Ripper and Party Arty (RIP) among others.

The Urban Renewal Project also passes along its condolences to the families and friends of DITC and Cella Dwellas MC, Party Arty, and the legendary MC Breed who both recently passed away. It was way too soon for both talented artists to leave us. RIP.

Peace,

Big M

Urban Renewal Project -- December 2nd, 2008

It's beginning to look a lot like...... Winter. Ehh..

Since we shaved the show down to two hours last week, we'll be sure to make up for it this week with good interviews, music and giveaways. We'll be joined first by the West Coast duo, Keelay & Zaire (www.myspace.com/keelayandzairepresentridinhigh). Then we'll get back into some Vancouver flavour in the form of Emotionz! (www.myspace.com/emotionz)

We'll also be giving away some CDs, so don't hesitate to call in!

Check out the Urban Renewal Project live from 10pm-1am PST on 102.7fm CFRO, or online at www.UrbanRenewalProject.net . Also download past episodes and check out the blog! We also have an online store up and running now (thanks Gyromite!) if you're into getting yourself a nice t-shirt or a DJ Sage exclusive mixtape!

URP Radio -- Tuesday November 25th

What's good?

This week was a bit of a throwback to our old format, when our show would only run for 2 hours instead of the 3 hours of madness we've been bringing you lately. The reason for this is that we hit up Republic to check out Peanut Butter Wolf's world renown DJ/VJ set. We'll be the first to tell you that he did not disappoint. The spot was rockin and everyone was having a great time. If PB Wolf is in your area, do not hesitate to check him out!

Other than that, we featured Ludacris' new album, Theater Of The Mind. Overall, this album wasn't blowing us away but it is alright for such a commercial release. There's obviously some club friendly tracks, mixed in with a bit of filler and a couple of gems. One of these being the DJ Premier-produced track, MVP. You already know how we feel about this track if you listen to the show though (Hint: it's sick). Overall though, I would call the album a disappointment.

We also got into some new stuff from K'Naan and Snak The Ripper & Young Sin, as well as some classics from Peanut Butter Wolf and Rasco, among a whole lot of other heat. Download the podcast RIGHT HERE to check it out.

Peace til next week!

DJ Premier talks Luda

Ludacris is in DJ Premier's top 20 MCs? I wouldn't have guessed it but here it is! This clip shows DJ Premier and Ludacris hard at work putting down tracks for Luda's upcoming album, Theater Of The Mind. It drops next Tuesday and should be a banger. The track "MVP" is produced by Premier and is a certified heavy hitter.

Snak The Ripper, Young Sin, Fatt Matt & D-Rec live in on the Urban Renewal Project

Big show on Tuesday... Not only did we have phone interviews with Sammy Bananas and Double-O from Kidz In The Hall, we were also joined live by some of Vancity's finest in the form of Snak The Ripper, Young Sin, Fatt Matt & D-Rec. Underground check

Don't you love it when you hear a track that just takes hold of you and you just zone on it? This cut from Reef The Lost Cauze's upcoming album "A Vicious Cycle" did it for me the other day.

Reef The Lost Cauze - I Wonder

It's produced by Marco Polo, one of the, if not the best Canadian producers. Actually scratch that, he's just one of the best producers out right now in my opinion. His album, "Port Authority" is sick, check that out too if you haven't already.

First blog! Big!

What up people? First blog is going down live and direct from Columbia and Hastings in Vancity! I'm not a pro, but I can only imagine I'm gonna be the next Michael Jordan of this bloggin ish.

What is it about September that brings out the best in Hip-Hop? Look at all the albums that came out today! Large Pro dropped Main Source 2008, Murs came out with Murs For President, TI released Paper Trail.... and the album I was looking forward to the most was Heltah Skeltah's D.I.R.T. (Da Incredible Rap Team).

I gotta say, out of those 4, I'm feeling Large Pro's the most. He is clearly still a beast on the boards! The thing is though, maybe it's because I haven't had a lot of time to THOROUGHLY listen to the Heltah Skeltah joint, but I was a little bit dissapointed with it. The craziest thing about this album is that they sample Goldust's entrance theme from the WWF. Anyone remember this guy?

All wrestlers aside though, this is a pretty cold sample. It's got that epic sound to it. Goldust was pretty out there though... Hopefully this album grows on me in the next week or so...

That's all for now
