URP Radio PODCAST - Deep from 2 Hungry Bros -- May 15, 2010

Hip-hop fans are liking it in Vancouver these days. Since EPMD, Public Enemy and Reflection Eternal are hitting off shows this week, we decided it was only right to hit you in the head with a ton of tracks from these three legendary groups. If you're up on hip-hop, you'll be digging the tunes tonight!

We were also joined by Deep, one half of the NYC production duo, 2 Hungry Bros... We chopped it up about collaborations, past and upcoming projects as well as the best place to get a good meal, coast-to-coast. The Bros have been and continue to make big moves in the Hip-Hop realm and have probably worked with some of your favourite artists so get familiar! Make sure you check out 2 Hungry Bros on www.twitter.com/@2HungryBros, www.Facebook.com/2HUNGRYBROS and last but not least, http://2HungryBros.BandCamp.com.

Like we said, we got into a ton of great tunes, many of which were EPMD and Reflection Eternal related, so we really couldn't go wrong now could we! This has been one of our best shows of the year so don't sleep!

URP Radio PODCAST - T.R.O.Y. - May 18, 2010

We got into a much anticipated Double Shot this week, featuring Nas & Damian Marley - "Distinct Relatives". The album has the unfortunate task of living up to the high hopes of fans around the world and delivers as best as possible. It might take a few spins to fully appreciate it, but Nas and Jr. Gong have released an album that will breathe fresh air into mainstream Hip-Hop.

It's a good time to be a Hip-Hop fan in Vancouver as there are a GAMUT of acts playing shows in the city as we move closer and closer to the Summer. Don't miss out on the Straight Skills DJ Competition, Sweatshop Union, Public Enemy, Snak The Ripper, The Scale Breakers, EPMD, Just Blaze, Reflection Eternal and Warren G, among others, all in and around Vancouver. Listen to the podcast for exact dates, or get those digits working and search online.

2Face Al was also challenged by Urban Renewal Project alumni, Needle Kineval, to bust an impromptu conscious freestyle about immigration, oil spills and managed to diss on many different individuals. Hopefully they hear it and try to do something about it.

Check out all the goodness by DOWNLOADING THE PODCAST RIGHT MEOW!

May 12, 2010 PODCAST -- Click & Elekwent Folk interviews + Cypher Madness

We got into it once again for another Tuesday night, featuring the new Scarface's first ever mixtape, entitled “Dopeman Music”. We figured it was kind of strange to see Scarface release his first mixtape after just about 20 years in the game, but hey... he says that because he's a free agent he wanted to do a mixtape! He puts on a lot of unsigned talent with this release, so on top of this mixtape being a solid release, he's giving his people a chance. Check it out.

We were then joined by Click from the Stylus Group. You might remember the Stylus Group for their yearly DJ Awards, among other things. Make sure you check out the "It Starts With The DJ" Conference which is making stops in several spots across Canada and touching down in Vancouver on May 22nd. Just Blaze will be the keynote speaker and Vancouver's finest DJs (DJ Sage) will be in the house. If you are a DJ trying to step your game up, make sure you come to this conference because you'll get to hear first hand accounts of how to make an impact in the music business. Check out www.StylusGroup.ca or look up "It Starts With The DJ" on Facebook for more information.

We also had the Elekwent Folk in the house tonight. They came down to touch off on their new projects and drop a few freestyles with 2 Face Al. They got a lot going on so look forward to their new album coming soon called “Northern Lights”. Ridiculous cypher, so make sure you DOWNLOAD THE PODCAST NOW to listen to smooth flows off the top over some great summer beats.

URP Radio PODCAST - Ayinde INTERVIEW

We came back again with some heat this week!

First of all, all of us at the Urban Renewal Project give a big shout out to DJ Brukout; we wish you a speedy recovery and all the best.

We had an up-and-coming New York rhyme fiend, Ayinde, join us for a quick interview over the phone. He is making some serious noise with his banging new original material mixtape “No Slices”, which is available on his myspace as a free download. Make sure you check it out if you're looking for some fresh lyrics over boom bap, jazzy and soulful beats. www.MySpace.com/AyindeMusic -- Also check him out on Twitter: @Ayinde5.

We also got into an impromptu Ras Kass set just because we remembered how wild of a lyricist he is. Add that to a brief Nice 'N Smooth set in honour of their first visit to Vancouver and crazy tunes from Saukrates, The Lootpack, J-Live, The Wu-Tang Clan and many more, you got yourself a pretty solid two hours of music! We also weighed in on Eminem's new single, "I'm Not Afraid". What do you think?
