December 15, 2009 -- PODCAST

We kicked off with a Double Shot from J.J. Brown's new album, "Connect The Dots" on Well Done Entertainment. Coming out of Philly, J.J. has dropped a very jazzy disc with a throwback feel. Features include Reef The Lost Cauze, Eternia, Block McCloud, Louis Logic, Celph Titled and many more. Make sure you check this album out, although you'll probably have to head online to find it.
www.myspace.com/5gproductions

We were then joined by Canadian Hip-Hop stalwart, the one and only Choclair. He's been putting it down for a minute, so we had a lot to discuss about the come-up, his relationship with DJ Premier, how to make a girl feel special during the holiday season and what's next for Chiznock. Check him out on Facebook to keep up to date with all his moves!

Unfortunately, the interview with big shot Bangs didn't work out, due to something on his end. He was probably caught up in the popcorn line at the theater. Oh well.

We had some more time to play a lot of great music, including an all-Choclair set which brought back a lot of memories! We also had some KRS-One & Buckshot, Souls Of Mischief, O.C., Common, Chen Lo and more!

URP Radio -- December 8th, 2009 -- PODCAST!

Cot damn it's cold!

We started out by featuring the much anticipated Clipse album, "Til The Casket Drops", which is available now on Sony. The track with Cam'Ron, Popular Demand, is in heavy rotation on the URP as well as many other media outlets and we should be hearing a lot more from the Virginia duo in the months to come. Check out "Freedom", the track is crazy!

We were then joined by up and coming producer/rapper Rich Kidd, who's been working with the likes of Kardinal Offishall, Saukrates, Busta Rhymes, Billy Danze and a host of others and is really making waves these days. We discussed how this young artist got into hip-hop, his many collaborations, his creative process and the Canadian Hip-Hop classics. Check him out at www.MySpace.com/RichKiddBeats ASAP!

We also weighed in on some turkeys in the sports world, with Tiger Woods, Mike Vick and DeLonte West topping the list, among others. This week marked the return of O-Dog after a month long hiatus due to travel, sickness, and debauchery.

Make sure you check out the podcast by CLICKING HERE! Tons of Canadian content, plus jams from the Wu, Tribe, Statik Selektah, The Beatnuts, Big L & OC and plenty more!

URP Radio -- Dec 1st, 2009 -- Podcast!

It's beginning to look a lot like... URP Radio!

We started off with a Double Shot from the brand new Souls Of Mischief album, which features back and forth verses from MCs: A-Plus, Phesto, Opio, Tajai and prduction from Prince Paul and Domino. "Montezuma's Revenge" is available now, courtesy of Hiero Imperial. Much like the rest of the Souls catalog, this one doesn't disappoint and brings some classic Oakland sound to the 4th quarter of '09. If you've been down with the Hieroglyphics since the early 1990's, this will be a welcome addition to your album collection.

We were then joined by Vancity mainstay, Emotionz. He let us know what's up with Monday Night Live as well as the various other gigs he's promoting and hosting. Stay tuned for the video release party for his track "Dear God (100 Bars)" from his latest album, “Kush!” Hit him up at www.MySpace.com/Emotionz or look him up on Facebook for all the intel on this and much more!

We also brought back the legendary "Flip The Tune" segment this week, after a jam packed show last week. This week's contestants were Black Moon's "2 Turntables & A Microphone" and "Buddy" by De La Soul. Who will win?

PODCAST -- November 24, 2009 -- Camp Lo interview!

This is it what!

We started off by featuring a couple tracks from the new A.G. & O.C. album, "Oasis" on Nature Sounds. This is one that was heavily anticipated by the Urban Renewal Project crew and it is a quality disc just as we expected. If you know what's up with Diggin' In The Crates, you won't wanna miss this album. These two MCs have been on the top of their game as long as I can remember and they keep it up on this one. Do it!

We kept our month of epic guests rolling tonight with the legendary Bronx duo, Camp Lo. We were first by Sonny Cheeba and then by Geechi Suede. We discussed their original merger, the parental influence on their eclectic music and their new album "Another Heist". We also tried to pry some info from Suede about some new projects that are in the works, but plans have to be kept under wraps for the time being. They involve some big producers though, so stay tuned! Keep up to date with Camp Lo at www.CampLo.net.

There was a lot of great music being played tonight as well as a fair share of venting. Make sure you check out the podcast, BY CLICKING HERE.

We are also in the middle of our pledge drive at Co-Op radio, which means we are taking donations, however small or large they may be. Just visit www.CoOpRadio.org and donate, but don't forget to specify the Urban Renewal Project as the show you'd like to contribute to!

And don't forget to download the new URP Radio/Finale Design CD mixed by DJ Sage.

Some Wu stuff, why not?

I'm getting a little hyped up off this Wu-Tang Meets Dubstep remix album. Here's a track, to get an idea of what to expect from it

Love Don't Cost A Thing/Still Grimey (Nebulla & Dore Remix)

And now some more traditional Wu... although it's a little different with the Chop&Screwed hook.. but hey, the blaxploitation-esque video and sound is doing it for me...

November 17, 2009 -- HIGHLIGHTS!

Some standout tracks from this week's URP Radio show... let me just say that it's safe to say that Kurupt is back to being an absolute monster...

Kurupt & DJ Crazy Toones - 2 Turntalbes & A Microphone

Krondon - The Rules/Thin Minutes

Chen Lo f/ Raphael Smith - Give It All Up

Ol' Dirty Bastard - Say No

November 17, 2009 -- Strong Arm Steady!

Back once again after a brief one-week hiatus!

We got back into it by featuring (and yes, this was a surprise to me), 50 Cent's "Before I Self Destruct" in our Double Shot. The album actually has a full-circle feel to it, despite the few obvious bubblegum tracks. It also comes with a tribute DVD to Jam Master Jay, so that's gotta be worth something.

A bunch of hot music was then spun, and we got into an interview with Krondon and Phil Da Agony from the West Coast supergroup, Strong Arm Steady. Phil & Kron discussed the work that's gone into their new albums, "Arms & Hammers" and "Stoney Jackson", both due out on the legendary Stones Throw Records. We also discussed Madlib, clothing deals and the various ways that SAS are connected with the Vancouver scene. Check out the SAS gang at www.MySpace.com/TheGangSAS for all the latest news on the West Coast trio.

We were joined by Craig Mac who is doing big things for Hip-Hop in the Lower Mainland in terms of organizing shows in Vancouver and Whistler, so hit up www.Clubzone.com as well as anywhere fine tickets are sold!

We also got into yet another installment of "Who Flipped It Better?", or "Flip the Tune", or "Who Used a Particular Sample for a Song better", whatever you want to call it. Either way, the concept is simple. We get into two tracks that both use the same sample. This week, the contestants were DJ Quik - "Get At Me" from Safe + Sound and Brand Nubian - "Brand Nubian" from One For All. Who do you think killed the track?

Nov. 3rd, 2009 Podcast -- CORMEGA!

We started off with a Double Shot from BeKay's debut album, "Hunger Pains", which is available and recommend for next week on Coalmine Records. We had the privilege of interviewing the NY emcee a couple weeks ago, when he busted out a crazy new acapella. We kept it moving by playing a couple cuts off his album, which features the likes of Illmind, Marco Polo, R.A. The Rugged Man, Masta Ace, Heltah Skeltah, Inspectah Deck and many more. Don't sleep on this one, and hit Bekay up at www.MySpace.com/Bekay!

We were then joined by Queensbridge legend, the one and only Cormega. We got into discussion about his new album, "Born & Raised", upcoming videos, loyalty to the fans and the artform of Hip-Hop and why it's important to be interactive! Check Cormega at www.LegalHustle.net for all the latest and the chance to chat online to the QB veteran!

Unfortunately, our Strong Arm Steady has been postponed to November 17th. Better late than never though, right? Instead, we launched into a segment we've been getting off the ground, "Who Flipped It Better?”. This week's contestants were Show & A.G. - You Know Now (Buckwild remix) and Heltah Skeltah - Letha Brainz Blow. We aren't going to reveal the winner here in the blog, so check out the podcast to hear the results!

October 27, 2009 PODCAST -- Mixtapes for all!

We were back at it this week with a clean bill of health! The flu ran through the crew last week, but we're back at full-strength, health-wise. With that in mind, we got back into the groove tonight, with a Kam Moye double shot! We featured his new record “Splitting Image”, which is available now on MYX Music, a label that is doing big things in Hip-Hop right now. Check out this album as well as other releases from MYX, you will not be disappointed!

We were then joined by Georgia veteran, YZ, who had a lot to say! This legendary MC discussed everything from his participation in the Above The Rim soundtrack, Islam, rappers allegedly alienating themselves from the average fan, Hip-Hop being all encompassing, Poor Righteous Teachers, managing artists and more. Check out his new album, "Muad'Dib", available online now and stay tuned for more from this YZ! Hit him up at www.MySpace.com/TheRealYZ , www.Facebook.com/TheRealYZ and www.Twitter.com/TheRealYZ. Also support The Green Movement, a recycling program that YZ has a stake in by visiting www.TGMNow.com and seeing what they have to offer! Hip Hop can't exist if we destroy the world!

Other than that, we got into so much good music it wasn't even funny (it was dope though, don't worry). BK-One, YZ, Akrobatik, Dan-e-o, Camp Lo, The Twinz, Mathematics, M.O.P., Queen Latifah and many more! Download the podcast by CLICKING HERE!

We also have a new mixtape out mixed by DJ Sage. We will provide a free link, but if you like what you hear, here's what you can do:

1.) Become a member of CO-OP Radio CFRO 102.7fm. We are Vancouver's only community based and listener-supported radio station (aka free of big business ties and school funding). We are in the middle of our Autumn airlift, so why not show your appreciation for the programming we do on a weekly basis. Pledge as little or as much as you want and identify "The Urban Renewal Project" as your favourite Co-Op Radio program. www.CoOpRadio.org .

2.) You can hit me with a $5 paypal (djsage604@yahoo.ca) donation and I will send you a physical copy of the CD.

3.) If you like a particular artist on this mix (most of which I know personally and are both great and talented people) then go out and spread the good word, purchase some of their music or check them out live when they touchdown in your city.

Options 1 and 2 will land you with a physical copy of the mixtape, which includes some dope cover art! Good deal!

October 20, 2009 -- F-A-B-O!

We apologize for the lack of a podcast last week! Unfortunately, we had some technical difficulties and were not able to do the show as we usually do. I was without needles, and so I had to resort to key-j'ing.

We were back on track this week, featuring Cormega's new album, “Born & Raised”, which just dropped today on Traffic Entertainment. As usual, Mega goes hard on this one and is assisted by production from heavyweights such as DJ Premier, Large Pro, Easy Mo Bee, Havoc and more. Check this one out, as you can be sure Cormega never disappoints!

We were then joined by Brooklyn representative, the one and only Fabolous. F-A-B-O discussed his new album, “Loso's Way”, collaborating with Canadian talent, memorable moments from his rise to fame and more! Hit him at www.MySpace.com/Fabolous to keep up with everything Fabolous has been up to and don't sleep on his new album!

We played a ton of goodness tonight, including Redman, Cormega, Saukrates, Freeway, Common and many more! We also had Willy-E and Bay-Bay aka Bekon, who are on their promoter grind out in Chicago come by and chill with us in the studio this week. Quality talk!

Oct. 6th, 2009 PODCAST! -- Bekay & Spesh K!

We kicked it off tonight with a nice Double Shot from BK-One's new studio compilation, Radio Do Canibal. There are a ton of guest spots on this one, from Phonte to Aceyalone and it showcases some overseas production style that is very nice and fresh. Pick this one up wherever fine music is sold, although you may have to find an Internet retailer to facilitate your search!

For our first interview, we were joined by the always energetic Brooklyn MC, Bekay. This very talented MC promised us a great interview and did not disappoint! He's working on eliminating the candy-coated Hip-Hop that is saturating the commercial airwaves with his album, "Hunger Pains", which is due out on November 10th of this year. He weighed in on issues surrounding the Hip Hop and music world in general as well as why you should cop his album! Hit him up at www.MySpace.com/BeKay . This man is a monster! He even dropped a freshly written verse that the world has never heard!

We were then joined by Toronto (by way of Halifax) MC, Spesh K. He discussed his new disc, "90209", which is out now! The easiest way to check it out is on iTunes, so get your online copping on! He discussed the diversity of his collaborations, touring and more! Check him out at www.SpeshK.com!

September 22nd, 2009 PODCAST!

RIP Anthony Williams aka Roc Raida -- 1972-2009

We skipped the Double Shot this week in order to throw down a little tribute mix to the Grandmaster Roc Raida. The legendary producer, DJ and turntablist will be greatly missed.

We were then joined by Seattle MC, D-Black. Although he just dropped a record, D-Black will be retiring from Hip-Hop in order to join the ministry shortly. We got the low-down on what to expect from the album, as well as what he hopes to achieve with his new venture. Check him out at www.MySpace.com/Dblackmuzik.

We also had Jay Kin come through the studio and premier an absolutely hot track. We discussed his future plans, which include another trip to Japan to lay down some new material. Check him out at www.MySpace.com/JayKin and make sure you get a copy of "On The Humble", out now!

URP Radio -- September 15, 2009 -- PODCAST-- FINALLY!

We started our night off by featuring the new Duck Down Records release, "Survival Skills" by Buckshot & KRS-One. This album is dope on first listen and NOT one to be slept on especially with all the Canadian talent on it: Marco Polo, K’Naan, Moss, and Melanie Fiona. Buckshot, his flow is ridiculous on this album at times outshining KRS on the record, but both MCs are lyrical monsters and this is evident as soon as you pop the disc in your deck. Check it out! www.DuckDown.com

We then caught our white whale, so to speak. We were finally joined by the one and only Saukrates (the Dr. Dre of the Canadian hip-hop scene). This Canadian Hip-Hop icon had a lot to say about diversifying, remixing and collaborating, up-coming and bubbling Canadian talent, and why it's good to see the glass half full as opposed to half empty. You won't want to miss this interview or the subsequent Saukrates mix, so make sure you download the podcast! Nice tracks from this week's URP Radio

Here are just a few of the highlights of this week's show!

O.C. & A.G. - Think About It

Jay-Z - Thank You (Produced by Kanye West & No I.D.)

Back again! We had to take a brief hiatus on account of DJ Sage connecting and doing shows out in Toronto all last week.

We are back and better than ever though! We were joined live in studio by Seattle's own Khingz. As his website says, "if punk rock and blues met in a dark cigarette smoke hidden speak easy in Gotham City and overwhelmed by jazz induced lust bore a child they raised in a ghetto to an alternative sound track you’d get Khingz." This is the truth, as Khingz brings passion and an honest, grassroots style every time he touches the microphone. He also got into an INSANE marathon freestyle, so check out the podcast because you don't want to miss out on it! Don't forget to hit up his website, www.Khingz.com.

The birthday boy, Vancity's Nicest, Jay Kin also slid into the studio to kick it with us. He also kicked a crazy birthday freestyle and chopped it up with us about what was next for the coast-to-coast MC. Check him out at www.MySpace.com/JayKin for show dates, videos and all the info you need! Don't forget to pick up a copy of "On The Humble" at Dipt, Beatstreet Records and online.

Our weekly Emotionz segment was back on track this week as the man running Vancity's longest standing HipHop night joined us on the phone to discuss the most recent Rent Money battle, Snak The Ripper's Sex Machine album release party, and what's next for Monday Night Live at The Modern! Hit him up at www.MySpace.com/Emotionz for all the latest on Monday Night Live, tour dates and more.

August 18th -- URP Radio PODCAST

We hit off tonight's show with an extensive Mos Def mix in light of DJ Sage opening up for the Black Jack Johnson on August 27th at the Vogue Theater in Vancouver! We discussed the extensive and eclectic nature of Mos Def's catalog and how it was difficult to mix a lot of his tracks, but Sage held his own for sure and came away with a nice set.

We also ran down the highlights of Sage's trip to the Bay Area, where he caught up with the Brooklyn duo, aptly named Duo Live, backstage at the Ghostface/Method Man/Redman show. They discussed a variety of things ranging from beef in Hip-Hop to their new projects and aspirations. Check them out at www.MySpace.com/DuoLive for all the latest on this talented duo and go cop “The Color Of Money” now.

URP Radio PODCAST -- July 28th, Rock The Bells edition

What's good party people?

We were just treated to a great day of Hip-Hop thanks to the Rock The Bells tour which went down on August 1st at Deer Lake Park. Instead of doing a Double Shot this week, we just got right into showcasing the artists that were part of the Vancouver line-up at Deer Lake Park this weekend.
